How many times have you been advised by people to indulge in Self-care? Maybe, countless times. Or maybe, you are hearing it for the first time (I doubt that).
Maybe, no timeline or generation has taken Self-care more seriously than our time. The stress on Mental Health can make one go into stress. People have become more vocal about their emotional needs.
What is the Art of Nurturing?
Self-care is the intentional practice of nurturing one’s physical, emotional and mental well-being through activities that promote relaxation and stress reduction.
That is what the Google Baba said.
But I would like to explain it differently.
What Self-Care Isn’t
One cannot know the true meaning of Self-care without knowing what it isn’t.
- Self-care isn’t synonymous with selfishness.
- It isn’t denying responsibilities and the needs of others.
- It isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution.
- It doesn’t solely mean pampering or indicate luxury.
- It doesn’t guarantee immediate cure for deep emotional or psychological issues.
Goodness of Self-care
(Something we all know, but are too busy to take seriously.)
- Improves mental and physical health
- Boosts productivity
- Encourages self-compassion and builds emotional resilience
- Enhances creativity
- Improves relationships
- Cultivates personal growth
Adding Self-care Routine
Imagine you are Gracy or Jason, attempting a serene bubble bath. As you close your eyes for a moment of tranquillity, your cat decides to investigate. Amidst the chaos of splashing water and a fleeing cat , you realised that self-care might require a lock on the bathroom door. Don’t be Gracy or Jason.
Be prepared for your holistic self-renewal.
- Keep your phone away. Avoid multitasking.
- Refrain from negative self-talk.
- Avoid indulging in unhealthy behaviours or eating.
- Don’t rush through the self-care activities without savouring the moment.
How To
- Engage in hobbies
- Practise mindfulness and meditation, exercise
- Connect with others
- Regular self-reflection
- Eat healthy and drink plenty of water
- Set boundaries
And remember, in the quest for self-care, sometimes the greatest challenge is keeping the cat out of the zen garden. Choose the activity you love, be happy. Enjoy!
