You ask me about the journey within and I say it’s horrifying. When I dove into the pool of my inner sea, the first thought that came to my mind was, “Wait, this can’t be me.” I still keep shocking myself with different versions of me. Sometimes, good. Sometimes, not-so-good.
It is said that the saddest soul is the one who hasn’t discovered itself. As we get older, our need to find ourselves and our purpose keeps growing deeper and stronger. I have a curious mind for self-reflection. I find myself introspecting quite often throughout the day. Most of the time, I stay up late at night to write down my thoughts. This very thing is the reason I’m a writer today. The journey within is as important as, if not more important than, the journey outside.
Uncomfortable Sides
Through self-reflection, one of the first things people encounter is their flaws. It takes guts to face them. At first, we all deny. I denied it too. But the power that comes from accepting your dark side is incomparable. It makes room for self-love and changes. The sooner we accept them, the sooner we have access to our self-growth. It also builds a sense of honesty in us.
When I jotted down all my flaws, the intrusive thought that struck my head was, “I’m definitely going to hell.” My Guardian Angel must be slapping its forehead at every step I take. I bet my Guardian Angel’s forehead is flat now due to constant slapping.
Best Sides
Once we explore our weaknesses, we now look for our strengths. Sometimes, what we think of as our weakness can also be our strength. All we need is a little push from our faith in ourselves. Our minds can always play tricks on us to make us believe something. We need to be aware of our minds and train them.
When I explored my best sides, I realised I wasn’t that bad after all. My good side looked much better than my bad side. Again, I told you, our minds have the tendency to exaggerate bad things. That’s why we have to train it well. I might have a fair chance of getting into the above. My Guardian Angel must be winking at me right now, showing a thumbs up.
Salvation
Well, this is the best part about self-reflection. Now that you have explored all sides of yourself, you are ready to polish yourself. Self-reflection helps us learn from our experiences, set values, evoke self-love and self-belief, and foster gratitude.
Remember, self-reflection isn’t a one-time journey but a lifelong expedition to discover new things about us at different points in life. Keep embracing your flaws and polishing your strengths; self-reflection will guide you well.
Enjoy life! Have a good life.
